Travel & Stay
Your guide to visiting Bar Harbor and Acadia!
Travel
Bangor Airport
The best airport to fly into is Bangor International Airport, which is about an hour drive from Bar Harbor. There are direct flights from Boston, New York, and a variety of other major hubs. You can rent a car there, or take a shuttle or taxi from the airport down to the island.
Bar Harbor Airport
If you are feeling adventurous, you can try to get a flight aboard Cape Air directly into Bar Harbor (the airport is a few minutes off the island, but very close). However, these planes are 7 seats only, single propellor, and not for the faint of heart! They also have limited availability, and can be delayed or canceled due to fog or inclement weather.
Driving
You may also consider driving up if you’re not in a rush and want to enjoy the scenic Maine coastline. Consider taking Route 1 along the coast from Portland up to Bar Harbor, stopping in Camden, Rockport, or any of the other classic Maine fishing towns for lunch!
Lodging Recommendations
The Town of Bar Harbor
There are a multitude of hotels and bed and breakfasts in the town area of Bar Harbor, as well as Airbnbs. The ceremony and reception are walking distance from each other in Bar Harbor, as well as the rehearsal dinner, so staying in town is preferred if possible for maximum convenience.
Timeline
The official wedding events will take place on Friday the 22nd and Saturday the 23rd. However, Bar Harbor and Acadia is a beautiful place to visit, especially this time of the year! For anyone who has the flexibility to stay longer, we’d highly recommend taking an extra day or two (or week!) to explore Acadia National Park and the surrounding area. We’re happy to show people around, and will have a few ad-hoc hikes and swims planned for earlier in the week as well!

Hiking
There are over 25 different peaks on the island, and over a hundred trails that are perfect for a day hike and a view! Grab a trail map at the park ranger station in Bar Harbor, pack some snacks and water, and go earn your Moose Tracks signature ice cream!
Our low key favorites include Flying Mountain on the west side and Sargent Mountain on the east side.
Island Explorer Bus
The Island Explorer is a free bus service that runs all over the island. It’s great for getting to trail heads, as parking can often be hectic this time of year inside the park. It’s free, and you can get dropped off (or picked up!) anywhere along its various routes (just wave it down like a good ole' NYC yellow cab)
Top Spots to Visit
While much of the island is worth exploring, in your limited time here, we’d recommend attempting to check out these iconic locations:
Sand Beach (+ Beehive Mountain)
Hunter Beach (for really cool rocks)
Jordan Pond (+ Jordan Pond house for popovers and tea)
Ledges at Echo Lake (perfect for a post-hike late afternoon swim)
Cadillac Mountain for the sunrise, of course (first spot in the US that the sun rises)
